Day out in Cornwall

Simon had yesterday off work so we planned a day out on the train. It was also the day summer arrived!

We got the train to Penzance (the last station in Cornwall on the South West tip of England). We had a walk around Penzance but it wasn't too exciting and as the weather was so good we decided to head to St Ives. On the short train ride we had beautiful views over Mounts Bay & St Michael's Mount.

By the time we arrived in St Ives it was hot, hot, hot! There were lots of people enjoying this beautiful, Cornish fishing village.

St Ives has lots of galleries and lovely little shops and stunning beaches.

This little beach had colourful beach huts. See that grassy area up above the beach?

That's were we headed. We kicked off our shoes, or boots in my case and spent an hour or so relaxing. Simon had a book, I had my knitting.

For some stupid reason I had decided to wear my sheepskin boots. Yes my feet were hot!! Need to dig out my sandals. We also hadn't brought sun cream and both got slightly burnt. Very stupid, especially for me as I had skin cancer about 14 years ago and really need to be more careful. Fortunately I wore long leggings and 3/4 sleeves so only caught the sun on my chest, a tiny bit on my arms & face.

After our relaxation, we continued up the hill to a little chapel on top of the hill.

The views were amazing!

The chapel is tiny and beautifully restored inside.

We walked back through St Ives through narrow streets, browsing in more shops. Popped in to Zion Community Church's coffee shop and had the best banana milkshake (it was huge) and a Cornish Cream Tea each (scone, Cornish clotted cream and jam) for less than £7 in total. Excellent value!

After a great day out I slept most of the train ride home. Going by train (1.5 hours to Penzance) was great. Much more relaxing than driving and no worries about parking.
