Pro Guide To Knitting

If you like the expert tutorials in The Knitter you will love this new bookazine from The Knitter! The Pro Guide To Knitting features lots of expert guides previously featured in The Knitter. There are tutorials on all sorts of techniques like casting on/off, shaping, lace knitting, embellishing your knits, finishing, cable knitting, colour knitting, knitting in the round and designing.
In addition this book (I think it's more of a book than a bookazine) also contains lots of lovely patterns. Again these patterns have been previously featured in The Knitter. And I've got a pattern included too.

My contribution is the beautiful Lightning Shawl which was featured in issue 31. This shawl has zig zag lines highlighted with beads which really make the shawl sparkle.

I knitted the original in pure silk lace weight but any laceweight yarn will be suitable. You'll only need one 800m/100gr skein to knit the whole shawl. I used several colours of seed beads which were added using a crochet hook (see my video tutorial if you're new to this technique).

The shawl is worked from the top down with 6 increases every other row to create a half hexagon shape which is really easy to wear as it sits so nicely on your shoulders. The shawl is finished off with a knitted on edging along the 'cast off' edge. The Pro Guide has a feature on how to work knitted on edgings.
If you love The Knitters expert guides and patterns, you'll love this book, especially if you've mislaid or don't have all the issues. This book pulls all these fabolous resources into one useful book in addition to lots of classic patterns by your favourite The Knitter designers.

The Pro Guide to Knitting is available in your local newsagent now. I spotted it last week in our local newsagent (which stocks an amazing range of knitting and craft magazines by the way - it's Liskeard News in Fore Street, Liskeard) or you can buy it online here.
