A Summer Beauty from The Knitter

The new issue of The Knitter (issue 60) is out and I've got a gorgeous design - Courances - which is a lace poncho. It's basically a lace rectangle with a seam to make sure it stays on your shoulders.
When I do shows lots of knitters tell me then'd love to knit lace but don't wear shawls so this was my answer to their problem. You can knit a delicate lace shawl and it'll still look as elegant as a shawl but it'll stay on in the summer breeze and be more practical than a shawl.

I love the styling in these photos - so summery - and this lace wrap is perfect for warm summer evenings when it starts to get a bit chilly or cool summer days. Or perhaps you just want to cover your shoulders to protect them from the sun.

I used a luxurious blend of baby alpaca and bamboo from Tall Yarns ’n Tales. This yarn is hand-dyed by guest dyers including The Natural Dye Studio (used here), Koigu and Artisan Yarns. I love this yarn weight which is halfway between a heavy lace and standard sock yarn with 600m per 100gr skein. Perfect yarn for knitters who find lace yarn a bit too fine.
So if you're looking for the perfect summer accessory which is both beautiful and practical, here's your answer.

By the way, I'm dyeing yarn this weekend, so if you'd like to order the Rosy Pink colourway of Silky Camel Lace for the Fantasia Shawl from Knitting magazine, order it before Saturday 22 June and I'll post it on Tuesday 25 June.
