New yarns!

On Friday two big boxes of fabolous new yarns arrived. We've been climbing over them in the hall way all weekend. this morning I got to work dyeing some of it. First up was the Sock Variety Club yarn which will be posted as soon as it's dry, hopefullly Wednesday. Then I dyed the Easy Lace Club yarn which I'm aiming to post on Friday. And finally I got to work on the Angora Lace. I've dyed up some 'peacock' for the Lazuli Shawl pre-order yarn. If you've ordered some 'peacock' then it'll be posted as soon as it's dry, hopefully Wednesday. I've done some other colourways too. I'm planning to dye more on Wednesday which means that there will be an update on Friday.

Back to what was in those boxes. Some exciting new yarns. First up there was some merino/nylon high twist sock yarn.

Fantasy Sock is a blend of merino/cashmere/nylon and here's the new Bluefaced leicester version: BFL/cashmere/nylon:
Some new Bambino Lace and Sock with British Falkland Merino rather than just 'any old merino':

This next yarn I'm especialy excited about. it's a blend of merino and nylon with these little silver sparkly bits in it. it doesn't show up very well in the photo but it's gorgeous. can't wait to dye some.
I also need to come up with names for the new yarns, mainly the 'sparkle sock', merino/nylon high twist and the bfl/cashmere/nylon. Any ideas? Leave your suggestion in the comments. If  I decide to use your suggestion you'll get a skein of the yarn you named in a colour of your choice. If more than one person suggests the same name, the first one to suggest it gets the prize. I'm teaching tomorrow so wont be logging on, so will decide on Wednesday.

A few weeks ago I decided to treat myself to fibre club membership to try and motivate myself to kick-start my spinning a bit. Last week the first parcel arrived and I'd completely forgotten I signed up for it so it was a great surprise. The first installment is 100% Polwarth top dyed in the 'marvellous maples' colourway. And it's from The Painted Tiger.

I've never spun Polwarth before. Apparently it's a blend of merino and lincoln and is very soft. The suggestion for this fibre is a high twist sock yarn. I've never successfully spun a sock yarn before so I may give it a go. No time for spinning until this week's design deadlines are done though.

I've got 3 deadlines this week. One was knitted up by Pixie and she's posted it back to me today. There is one design which consists of 1 small and 2 even smaller items. The small one is nearly finished. I may try and finish it tonight. I'm planning to cast on for one of the smaller ones tonight so I can knit on it during the workshop tomorrow if I get a chance. And the third one is a big one, my first crochet garment. it's going well but I would like to be a bit further on by now. I'm hoping to finish the first half tonight. Basicallly I'll be busy trying to get it all done on time. Especially as I won't get much done tomorrow. And when I get home tomorrow night I'll probalby be asleep in my chair by 7pm, I usually am after workshop. Then at around 8pm Simon wakes me up and tells me to go to bed. the workshop is 'toe up socks'at Spin A Yarn.

So before I get back to my hook, I've got one more thing to show you. Remember I said I bought 2 skeins of Fyberspates Scrumptious DK last week at Hulu Crafts? Well, here it is:

yes, ofcourse it's purple! No big surprise is it?! I've not decided what to do with it but I'm thinking a scarf perhaps with reversible cables and after this week's deadlines I've got a bit of a gap so I may get a chance to start it soon.

How about Starlight or Starry for the glitter sock? And maybe Softy Sock yarn for the bfl/cashmere/nylon.

Or... why not call the sparkle sock Twinkletoes?

For the 'sparkle sock', I'd suggest Twinkle Twinkle.

For the merino/nylon high twist, Merlon.

For bfl/cashmere/nylon, Luxe, Hard Luxe or Tough Luxe.
