Fab Funky Fibres Socks & Giveaway

If you're a regular reader, you may remember I knitted some fabulous Fab Funky Fibres rainbow socks last December. I knitted a pair for myself which I blogged about here. My friend, Marianne, loved the socks and was very keen on a pair, so I knitted a pair for her for Christmas. Emily saw those and she wanted some too, so I knitted another pair for her later last winter.

Emily and I have been wearing our rainbow socks a lot! And they've been washed a lot! And they're holding up brilliantly. The base yarn is a regular sock yarn with 75% merino and 25% nylon but the secret to this gorgeous yarn is the dyeing.

As a former indie dyer myself I know how much hard work dyeing yarn is and to get these even colour repeats is very difficult and it's a lot of work. The colours are bright and flow from one to another without any muddiness or any white patches The colours are even and saturated.

Last week I finished another pair of Fab Funky Fibres socks. I've worn them a couple of times already and received compliments. I love the green background between the rainbow stripes.

A couple of weeks ago my friend, who I knitted the rainbow socks for, asked me if I could order another skein of the same yarn for her as she wants to knit a pair of matching hand-warmers. As I was ordering I couldn't resist getting a couple of skeins for myself.

The one that's already wound into a cake is a gradient Donegal Nep sock yarn. It's got a tweedy effect and looks luscious. I'm really keen to cast on for a little shawl when I go to Norway in two weeks. It'd make a perfect travel project.

Elaine from Fab Funky Fibres sent me a skein of one of her rainbow colour ways for me to give away to one lucky blog reader. To be in with a chance to win this, please leave a comment telling me what you would knit with this skein if you won it. Socks, shawl, scarf, hat, mittens, gloves or anything else? The give away closes on Monday 26 October and I'll draw the winner then. Please leave an e-mail address or Ravelry (or other social media) name so I can contact you if you win.

Make sure you're signed up to my newsletter this week. Due to technical issues last Thursday afternoon and teaching all day on Friday I didn't manage to send out Friday's 'This week in the YarnAddict Studio' newsletter so I'll be merging last week's and this week's newsletters and send one out on Wednesday 21 October. There will be a very special offer on my online Continental Knitting with Norwegian Purl. This offer will only be available for newsletter subscribers.

Would you like weekly news from the YarnAddict Studio as well as exclusive subscriber offers?

If I won the yarn, I'd knit it up into your Robyn and Lily patterns. I love bright colours, and they would brighten up my navy blue full length raincoat. 😃

I am currently knitting a pair of socks out of FabFunkyFibres self striping yarn and I am so impressed. I'd be very tempted to make another pair of socks but I know that this yarn would make even better long fingerless mitts, so I could show off the colours. (Stitched-Together on Ravelry)

If I won I would have to knit a pair of toe up socks to Anni' s Creme Caramel Pattern. I did the toe up sock workshop with Anni in March and I have been putting my new skills to very good use.

SOCKS!!!!!!! My daughter would LOVE those!!!

I think it would definitely have to be gloves! There's nothing that helps keep the winter blues away like putting on fantastically coloured gloves when it's cold and dark out :)

Loooooong gloves!! They'd be a fabulous pop of rainbow colour for the colder weather, match any of my coats and not be hidden by my winter boots unlike socks!!

I would knit socks, gloves, hat and scarf! It's too beautiful a colourway to restrict it to just one item! But I suppose if I had to choose, it would be a hat. Something to be worn where the world would see it and fall in love with it.

It would have to be a lovely pair of socks. Nice bright skein to cheer us up during the winter blues.

Oh my Anniken, what beautiful yarn! I think the wool is too special to be hidden away as socks, I would make some wristwarmers with bright contrasting buttons going up the side. Any yarn left over with be mixed with a plain colour for a contrasting hat.

I love her yarn and as you said very clever to get the colour stripes so perfect. I would knit a hat, so that i can show off her dyeing skills. A wonderful prize.

What lovely yarn! I think it would be a lovely cowl; nice and bright and cheery to combat the mid-winter blues.

All of these colourways are fabulous! So bright and cheerful! If I had rainbow colored yarn in a sock-type weight, you can bet I'd make me some socks! Bright and colorful socks are THE best thing! :D

I would likely use the yarn to add mitred squares to the sock yarn blanket I am working on, and maybe knit some toddler socks as well.

I have everything crossed to win.......pretty please!! I have recently become addicted to knitting socks and I would love nothing more than a fabulous pair with this gorgeous yarn!
My teenage daughters seem to like my hand knit socks too since they steal them from me as soon as they hit my sock drawer!
No doubt these will end up on their feet too!!

I'd most likely knit some long, fingerless gloves from this gorgeous yarn, but think it would make a really fun, long slouchy hat or a cute stuffie monster or something.

I've been tasked to make a pair of long fingerless mitts in bright and vibrant colours and the Fab Funky Fibres yarn looks like perfectly fitting the bill!

Wow what wonderful yarn. The socks look great and I'd love to use it to knit socks too but I suffer from acute second sock syndrome so I'll use it to knit a wonderful hat. (Jints65 on ravlery)

I would definitely make socks - they keep you warm and you can't fail to be cheerful with rainbows under your boots!

I'd have to knit socks. The yarn would brighten up my feet during winter and keep them warm and toasty as I look forward to Spring.

Unknown said...

It would have to be socks! Vanilla style or some simple ribbed ones to show off those lovely colours. I'm sure some would end up as hexipuffs too!

Socks socks socks! My wardrobe is generally very monchrome, but I do love a nice brightly coloured sock!
