The third design in the 'Beads & Lace Collection' is Lamorna cove named after Simon's favourite cove in West Cornwall. I've only been there a few times and it's a beautiful little beach.
I first knitted Lamorna Cove in my Twinkle Sock as a present for a friend who'd broken her arm. I thought a nice, sparkly, luxurious shawl might cheer hr up and she wanted a shawl which would cover her upper body and arm quite well. The first prototype is slightly different than the final design but I thought you still might like to see it. I'd already knitted my friend a pair of handwarmers using the same lacy stitch pattern so she wanted a matching shawl.
The lacy hem is deeper and so is the garter stitch short row section. Here's the details of that prototype. When I started working on the final sample I decided to change thing s a bit to take advantage of 150gr/600m skein of sock yarn. This meant making the lace hems slightly shallower as well as making the garter stitch section shallower. I also added beads.
A big thank you to Sarah for knitting this sample for me. I made her rip out a few times as we ran out of yarn. In the end I asked her to send it back to me and I ripped out the garter stitch section again and re-did this section to get it within the yarn requirements. I love the final result though and all the ripping out was worth it.
The beads don't show up too well in the photos but look gorgeous in real life.
Vanessa modeled this design for me. We decided to do the photoshoot outside a little church in a nearby village. The church is so pretty with a few different background options.
Wondering where you can get that pretty shawl pin? It's for sale in my shop here (the shop is closed while I'm in London and will re-open on Monday).
Lamorna Cove will be for sale individually and as part of the Beds & Lace Collection. You can pre-order the collection now for £9. Normal price once the e-book is published will be £12. Full price if you were to buy all 7 patterns separately is £21 so it's a huge saving to buy or pre-order the e-book.
If you pre-order the collection you will receive instant access to 'Balmoral'.
