A Fyberspates Design

Last year I designed two shawls for Fyberspates Scrumptious Collection Volume 2. The first one was the Dollis shawl which was included in the Scrumptious Collection Vol 2 booklet which was launched earlier this year.

The second shawl, Effra, has just been published as a single pattern. It's knitted in Scrumptious Lace which is  a delicious merino/silk blend that I've used for a few designs now. I love knitting with it.

Effra also features one of my favourite shawl shapes, a hybrid triangular shape. The shawl is worked from the top down and starts like a half-hexagon shawl with three equal triangles. After a few rows, the increases for the middle triangle stops. This creates some shoulder shaping which allows the shawl to sit really nicely on the shoulders and gives you more width than a standard triangular shawl but it's not as wide (nor the last few rows as long) as a standard half-hexagon shawl. It also gives the shawl a more rounded edge rather than a point. You can read more about how this type of shawl is shaped here.

Effra has a beautiful lace pattern and is finished off with a crochet chain cast off which is very easy to do, even if you're new to crochet. Check out my tutorial here.
