Definition 1 - The Garment

Today I'm continuing to talk about my designs in the new Artesano Definition 1 collection.  A lot of people think of socks when they hear about sock yarn and socks don't appeal to everyone. But there is so much more you can knit with sock yarn than just socks. And a lot of knitters, when they try socks, they get addicted to knitting them, so if you've not given socks a try yet, you don't know what you're missing out on.

There are two garments included in this collection. There's the Tarassaco Tank by Joanne Scrace (Joanne is involved in an exciting new crochet project which I'll talk about soon) which I just love and there's La Fontaine by me. La Fontaine is a pretty lacy waist coat with buttons down the front and an all over lace pattern. Perfect to wear over a pretty summer dress or over a long sleeved t-shirt and jeans.
This top comes in finished bust 84, (90, 100, 120)cm and is designed to fit with 3cm positive ease. Length is 46.5, (47, 48, 50.5) cm. You only need between 2 and 4 skeins to knit any of those sizes.

So how about a give away. Artesano kindly sent me some spare skeins and yes, I'm keeping some for myself for future designs and swatching for magazine design submissions but I've decided to share some of them with you. This yarn is too gorgeous to keep to myself. I've got one skein of the gorgeous blue I used for Flora and the dark red I used for the Talland Bay sock on the cover.
So to be in with a chance of winning these two skeins, please tell me what your favourite thing to knit with sock yarn is? Do you like knitting one skein shawls, socks, mittens, garments, baby stuff? Or you can tell me which is your favourite design from the Definition 1 collection?

Make sure you leave your comment on this post and if you're a Ravelry member, please leave your Ravelry name as that'll be the easiest way for me to contact you. Only leave your e-mail address if you're happy for other readers to see it. I'll draw the winner on Wednesday 6 March and post it here.

I look forward to reading what your favourite things to knit with sock yarn is. My favourite thing to knit with sock yarn is small shawls that take just one skein of sock yarn.

Thanks for the giveaway. I hope I'm elegible, even though I'm in the US. I really like your designs. So far I've only used sock yarn for socks, but I'm starting to branch out, and one-skein shawlettes look so nice. I'm debbolib on Ravelry (with not much to show there - keep forgetting to post).

Your designs are lovely! I usually use lovely sock yarn for shawls but I keep trying my hand at socks. Slowly getting better. I think you Little Bird socks are adorable! Those are calling me.

One of my favorite things to make from sock yarn are gloves. The yarn is fine enough to make easily wearable gloves and sturdy enough to withstand daily use.

Great yarn giveaway and thanks. I always prefer sock yarn, Love project like Annis or Abyssal, a one skein shawl that you can always wear. Many lace patterns can be easily knit in sock yarn too.

I'm a traditionalist so my favourite use for sock yarn is to make socks with!

Other than socks, I quite like to knit "one skein" shalws, and fingerless mitts are nicer to wear when done in sock yarn.

Socks are a favourite but so are shawls I need more of both in every colourway possible.

I'm just now starting to knit socks so I'm trying out different heels, toes, and techniques. I can see how it can become addicting. ^_^ But there's nothing like sitting down with a side-to-side shawlette pattern and a scale.

I love to knit socks and small shawls from sock yarn. Sometimes it's so hard to pick a pattern for my yarn so I just keep it and look at it and enjoy it until something strikes me. Thanks for the chance!

I love, love the Flora Shawl Design. I have knitted the Daisy shawlette and the friendship shawl, brilliant patterns, and very easy to knit. I'm Sally7 on ravelry.

Isn't their yarn wonderful? My favourite thing to knit really are shawls. I love lacy Shetland like patterns.I am terribly lazy with putting my own stuff in Ravelry. Am finelightness there.

Love these new patterns Anni! Never seen one quite like the St. Ives shawl, and so I would definitely have to say that is my favourite. I love sock yarn for making shawls, but I find it especially nice for armwarmers as well. I'm Writerdahling on Ravelry.

The terassaco tank is so pretty. I'd love to make that. My favorite sock yarn project is fingerless mitts though.

I've used sock yarns for a range of projects: scarves, baby blankets, fingerless mitts and probably my favourite: the Baby Surprise Jacket. I love that there are so many great colourways and that the yarn is designed for regular use once knitted.

Many sock yarrns are too beautiful too be hidden in boots and shoes. I have knitted several shawls, shawlettes, scarves and wrist wristwarmers with sock yarn and I like them all, but my favorite things so far are the cardigans I've made from handdyed sock yarn. I will absolutely knit the La Fontaine vest!

I have only used sock yarn for a single sock so far, the 2nd sock is in progress... I will be trying my hand at one of your beautiful shawls, could you recommend on for a lace beginner?
I love your designs they are so inspirational, delicate and beautiful.

No question about, I love shawls. I dont have enough of them though. Just like 2 weeks ago I was telling my mother, "I think I am only going to knit shawls from here on out, I just enjoy it"
