A weekend at Purlescence

On Friday, I got the train to Newbury. I arrived quite early and after checking in to my hotel, I went for a walk around the town. There's a canal running through the town centre and if it had been earlier in the day and warmer, I would have gone for a walk along the canal. But it was late afternoon and cold so I looked around the shops instead.

I spent Saturday and Sunday at Purlescence which is a fabulous online shop which sells luxurious yarn and accessories. They have a large show room outside Newbury (near M4) and do regular open days. There are walls of gorgeous yarn.

On Saturday I taught a new class for 2017, Shetland Lace Knitting. I had a lovely group of women who worked really hard and did great.

Three of the ladies came back on Sunday and were joined by some new ladies for a day of Fair Isle Knitting and Steeking.

The morning was spent practicing fair isle knitting techniques and in the afternoon we cut the steeks, picked up for a 'steek sandwich' and worked one row buttonholes and an i-cord cast off.

Below two of the ladies are cutting their steeks.

It was a great weekend and I'm looking forward to going back to Purlescence in April for Continental Knitting with Norwegian Purl and Top Down Raglan Sweater (where you will also learn how to calculate your own numbers to knit a custom fit sweater). Details of both workshops are here.
