Let's Knit 102 - another cover!

Issue 102 of Let's Knit arrived this week and I was delighted to see that my design was on the cover again, for the third time in a row. There's a lace leaflet included too but I'll talk more about that later.

My main design in this issue is a gorgeous lacy sweater knitted in Katia Merino. The lacy pattern and stylish cowl neck make this a flattering top that can be dressed up for a smart dinner or office do.

The sweater has batwing sleeves so they are worked in one piece with the body. Stitches are picked up for the cowl collar which is worked in the round in stocking stitch. There are written and charted instructions for the lace pattern.

There's always a free gift included with Let's Knit and this time the free gift is a bundle of 3 balls of lace weight yarn and a lace leaflet.  The leaflet has a selection of lace patterns, several of which use the free yarn. I designed the main lace shawl using the free yarn. This shawl is a half hexagon shape worked from the top down. Alternating between garter stitch and a simple lace pattern makes this a perfect first lace shawl or an easy knit for experienced knitters.

This shawl is light as a feather and the shape sits very nicely on your shoulders. Alternatively, wear it as a scarf. The yarn didn't have the yardage on it but it took less than 75g so I would imagine 800m of lace weight yarn will be more than enough. The yarn included is 100% acrylic and it is actually quite nice to knit with. I'm not normally a fan of 100% acrylic and I do think that this beautiful shawl deserves a nicer yarn but if this is your first time knitting a lace shawl then perhaps practice with the free yarn then treat yourself to a nicer lace yarn for another version.
