After Woolfest last weekend, we drove on to Scotland to visit my sister in law and her husband who live on the Morayfirth in North East Scotland. We only had 4 days with them but we made the most of it and managed to fit in a lot. Here's a quick photo diary of some of the things we saw.
You have to visit a castle in Scotland and here's Cawdor Castle, near Nairn.
Another must see in Scotland is Loch Ness (and no we didn't see Nessie). We did a two hour cruise on Loch Ness which we really enjoyed. Below is our boat coming down the canal from Inverness.
We cruised to Urquhart Castle, but didn't get off the boat, and back to the starting point again.
My sister in law live in the coastal village of Hopeman and one afternoon we went for a walk on the local beach and Simon went snorkelling while I sat in the car and knitted (it was too cold to sit outside that afternoon).
Love these beautiful beach huts:
On the last day we visited Speyside Cooperage where they made barrels using traditional techniques for the whisky and wine industry.
And on the final evening we went for a walk on Findhorn beach. We did spot some seals in the far, far distance and had a drink at the local pub. Although it looks cloudy in the photo, it was actually a sunny evening. We had sunny weather most of the time we were in Scotland apart from one afternoon.
It took us 14 hours to drive the full length of the country back to Cornwall. The drive through the Highlands was very scenic.
We had a fantastic time in Scotland. We haven't visited that area for nearly 15 years and I'm hoping we won't leave it as long till our next visit.
