The Crochet Project

Last year when I heard that Kat Goldin and Joanne Scrace were launching a new crochet project I was very excited. I submitted some ideas and got one design commissioned. The spring issue of The Crochet Project has just launched and is full of modern, wearable, gorgeous crochet designs. If you think crochet is old fashioned, think again. This collection is stunning.
The inspiraton for this collection was Botanicals which I think is a perfect spring theme. The colour scheme is muted and feminine. My contricution is a very simple to crochet lacy poncho. A crochet poncho may sound a bit dated but I think any fashionista would love to wear this on a chilly spring day.
Berula is worked as a flat rectangle and after blocking one seem is sewn and voila! you have a beautiful, lacy, drapey poncho. The stitch pattern is easy to get the hang of and I found i memorised it very quickly. I loved crocheting this and I was sad when I finished. I was tempted to make it longer, just so I could carry on. I found the crochet pattern very relaxing to work.

I used Debbie Bliss Rialto 4ply, which is a pure merino wool, for this design and the Rialto makes it warm but also very lightweight. I wish I had time to make one for myself.
Kat did the photography for this collection. And if you recognise her lovely model, it's because she modelled for some of my recent patterns too (and Kat did the photography).

Take a look at the collection here and Berula can be purchases here or on Ravelry. If you love crochet please support this beautiful collection. At the moment I'm working on my submission for the second Crochet Project issue.

Loverly design and you have certainly put a modern twist to the poncho.

Hi Anniken, I purchased your Berula Poncho and can't wait to get working on it. But I'm having a problem with Row 2. This seems to start with Ch3 and then another Ch3. Am I missing anything between these two Ch3?
I hope you can help me? I'm still only getting used to reading crochet patterns :-)
