Definition 1 - The Socks

Thank you for all the lovely comments (mainly via Twitter and Ravelry) about the shawls I talked about yesterday. Today I'll reveal my sock designs. 

Definition is Artesano's new sock yarn. It's 75% Superwash Merino and 25% Polyamide which makes it perfect for socks. I've got some spare skeins and i'm desperate to actually knit myself some socks. Can't decide which one of these pairs I want to knit first though.

First up are my Polperro socks. Thes have cables and lace running down the entire front of the sock and at the back the cables and lace transition into a rib for the heel flap. These socks were inspired by a small fishing village near where I live in Cornwall. Polperro is my Mum's favourite fishing village in Cornwall and we love going for a walk there. It was also where I thought my husband would propose to me (as we'd had a couple of late night romantic walks there). In the end he chose a different location.

The Polperro socks have a standard top down construction and come in two sizes. Foot length can be adjusted to suit the person you're knitting them for.

The Talland Bay socks are worked from the toe up. I recommend using the Turkish cast on (also known as Eastern cast on) in the pattern as it's my favourite but any other toe up cast on such as Judy's Magic Cast On can be used.

Talland Bay feature a lacy rib pattern that runs up the leg and the top of the foot. Unlik some toe up socks, these socks have a proper gusset and heel flap. The socks come in 2 sizes and foot length can be adjusted to suit the recipient's feet.
